The cars I have owned the last 10 years: I bought a totally awesome ’97 burnt-sienna-colored Chevy Cavalier (aka the Dirty Cav) to get me through grad school. When the gas line rusted out and it failed an inspection, I bought a 2007 Ford Fusion. I paid it off a while ago and plan to keep adding as many miles as I can to its 140k+ total. Hey, if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it, right?
Favorite celebrity: Jordan Spieth. Great golfer, humble guy and passionate advocate for veterans and willing to share his greater-than-$30 million-wealth to support veterans entrepreneurship. Oh, did I mention that he’s won two majors (including the Masters) and he’s only 22-years-old?
Weirdest Pandora Station: 80’s Cardio Radio. Pandora sometimes drops in stations for you and this one seemed to really resonate with me (lame pun totally intended.)
Guilty pleasure: I’m a big fan of a fine cigar matched with the perfect single malt scotch.
Craziest hobbies: I’ve been passionate about underwater basket weaving ever since I took a SCUBA diving class and then visited the Longaberger basket factory in the same day in 2011. Actually, that’s not true. However, I did visit the factory, but they didn’t get my lame joke. Which brings me to me actual response to this question; my craziest hobby is miserably failing (or perhaps succeeding, depending on how we define success) at dropping really lame jokes (e.g. please refer to Pandora question.)
Favorite movie: The Shawshank Redemption.
Believe it or not: I once set a corporate record for cooking hushpuppies at a competition when I worked at Long John Silvers in high school.
Greatest personal accomplishment: Being blessed with the responsibility of raising my son Maxwell.
Greatest professional accomplishment: Hands down: Getting to celebrate in the success of our passionate advocates we have working across the country to pass new laws to create opportunities for veterans to realize the American Dream and own their own businesses in state and local government legislation.
On my bookshelf: A ridiculously extensive collection of scholarly works on media effects, mass communication theory, integrated strategic communications and public opinion research. Yes, I am a nerd.
Favorite sports teams: I love the Stillers (AKA the Pittsburgh Steelers for yinz who ain’t from the ‘Burgh) and since I spent four years as a doctoral student and journalism instructor at the University of Kentucky, I gotta say… Go Cats!
Mac or PC: Seriously? PC. That is all.
Pop or Soda: I’m not even sure what soda is, so I guess it’s pop for me, especially if it’s a 3-liter-bottle of Faygo Root Beer.
Did you serve? Yes I did. Almost daily I realize I learned more than I can express about life and made some lifelong friends in the 25th ID in the U.S. Army humping that 240B up and down the gulches in the Kahuku out at Scofield Barracks. If it ain’t rainin’, we ain’t trainin’!
